The firm Schalk Botes Town Planners CC was established by Schalk Botes in 1995 when he left the Nothern Metropolitan Local Council (previously Randburg Town Council) after 19 years of service.

At the time of his resignation he was the Head of the Department Town Planning and Building Control for seven years

Schalk served on the Town Planning Liaison Committee of the School of Engineering at Technicon Witwatersrand and is a past committee member of the Transvaal Association for Municipal Town Planners. Also served on the Technical Liaison Committee of the Central Witwatersrand Metropolitan Chamber and various committees of the Greater Johannesburg Metropolitan Council related to land use planning. Also served on Provincial Committees relating to low cost housing.

Schalk Botes is registered as a Town and Regional Planner by the SA Council for Town and Regional Planners since 1985 and is a member of the SA Planning Institute. The firm is also a member of the SA Association of Consulting Professional Planners. Schalk is assisted by Ina Botes (Office manager) and Lebogang Lechuba B-Tech (Town and Regional Planning).

The firm implements computer aided design on Autocad and is registered with the electronic services provided by the Registrar of Deeds, Surveyor General and GIS Department of the City of Johannesburg.
